Former Burned Down Home Becomes Model of Net Zero Energy Living
HGA Co-Founder Bob Morsch, Architect Ric Stott to Accept Award for Dubin Family
(South Hampton, NY) – On Thursday, May 13th, Kevin Law, President & CEO of the Long Island Power Authority will present the NetZero Residential Building Award to the David Dubin family of South Hampton, New York and will be accepted by Bob Morsch, co-founder of the Hamptons Green Alliance; architect Ric Stott, of Flynn Stott Architects, who designed the home; and Mary McPartland, SunStream USA at 12:00 Noon at the NY Solar Industries 2010 Conference at the Crowne Plaza Center in Albany, New York.
The amazing home came to be by unusual circumstances. In December 2008, the family home of David & Saundra Dubin was destroyed by fire. The family – including the Dubin’s three children – also lost all of their belongings. It was a difficult time but with the help of the Hamptons Green Alliance, a consortium of green craftsmen founded by Telemark executives Frank Dalene and Bob Morsch; and architect, Richard Stott of Flynn Stott Architects, the family soon learned that the home would be reborn as one of the first provable models of net zero, carbon neutral green living. In spring 2010, all of the plans that were laid in early 2009 became a reality when the house was returned to the Dubins. Today, this technologically-advanced home features green innovations such as super insulation design and installation, geothermal heating and cooling, evacuated tube solar thermal hot water, thin film photovoltaic solar power, and harvested rain water to name a few.
